Earless Listening and other Unanticipated Things /Mixed Media

This exhibition, explores Kindler's frustrations and observations about contemporary life. Kindler combines resin, encaustic, photography and oils and integrates the mix of medias together in both two and three dimensional work, bringing for the first time the sculptural element into her two dimensional work.

She says of the work "When I began this work, I was mostly reflecting on ideological, political, social and religious differences that have put us at odds with our friends and colleagues at times, our country, our international relationships and our planet. But I quickly moved away from a direct reference to these dialogues to a more conceptual reference to this characteristic nature of human behavior." The sculptural Installation "Dialogue" and “Shut Up” talks to Kindler's exhaustion with the never ending dialogue and rhetoric prevelant in society today.

She says of the hanging work in large scale photography, encaustic and resin, "these contrast the naïve ideals and expectations of my childhood with the unanticipated realizations, of my current experience. The way I idealized my own way of thinking (and probably continue to do so) is represented by this series of botanicals with roots entwined in books, entitled “Studies I through IV”. I have always loved the old botanical studies as they point to an early part of my life where the simple documentation of a plant reflected a quieter, lovely aspect of life that promised careful consideration somehow of all things. Of course here, in my work, they are entangled with reality". That reality seen as the books in Kindler's work here, reflects on the unending points of view, that have come to us “en masse” in every book store, on every cable news station and on line.

In this exhibition, culminating with the work “Finding Serenity”, what comes forth is Kindler's personal longing for a more reflective time distinguished by accord rather than discord, careful consideration of things, a calming down of the endless rationalizations, lamentations, frustrations, dissertations, and ultimate damnations presented by contemporary life today. Perhaps it is a longing for a simpler life.
