Judith Kindler Bio

The Dreams / Sculpture

While much of Kindler's work is expressed on a light, more etherial background, this body of work is almost entirely against a dark, yet rich earthy ground. The light in the other work typifies Kindler's more reflective work: pondering more than experiencing. Here the dark suface conciously employed by the artist, takes on a more grounded prescence (yet still not "real"). While one might think that dreams should be categorized as reflective, for Kindler, they are interconnected with the waking state of reality and bound together with the images of life interconnected with hopes, fears and imaginations of the persistent overactive mental state that is unavoidably real to the artist. Kindler tackles the subject of dreams in this body of work. While the subjects are not all the result of sleeping dreams, they characterize a dreamlike state that exists when one is creating. The dramatic lights and darks typical in the artist's dream state, bring an energy and seriousness to this work which becomes almost old world in feeling as a result of the palette.
