The Journal Paintings/Mixed Media
Inspired by her journals from the past 30 years, Kindler documents questions she has asked of the I Ching (Book of Changes). The use of the I Ching accesses an ancient Chinese tradition, using a philosophical understanding of one’s position in relationship to a question posed and the relative environment. Revealing the trials and reflections of daily life, her work considers journal keeping as an ongoing dialogue with oneself. Through visual exploration, the artist exposes the commonality of the human experience, our search for answers and insight as well as our blindness to personal failings.
